I've been fascinated with her ever since I read Animals In Translation. She has led an extraordinary life, and has accomplished much in the field of humane treatment of animals, in a large part, as a result of her autism.

Very interesting. I'll have to check that out.
I hadn't heard of Temple Grandin before.

Bloodletting and autism, now there's a combo for you. What a strange world we live in.

I'm watching it right now... sorta.
She's talking to a horse.
Oooh! Now she just punched a dude and gave him a bloody nose!
Stay tuned for a play by play of all the action.
Or not.

She spoke at Border's a few weeks ago. I read the article about her, but unfortunately it was after her speech had taken place. I would have liked to have seen her.
She likes how Claire Danes portrayed her in the HBO movie...
When Temple Grandin was a young child, she didn’t communicate the way other kids did. She didn’t speak until she was nearly 4 years old, instead communicating her frustration by screaming, peeping and humming. In 1950, she was labeled autistic and her parents were told she should be institutionalized.
Today, Grandin holds a Ph.D. in animal science, is a professor at Colorado State University and an accomplished author. She’s also the subject of an upcoming HBO movie, “Temple Grandin,” set to air in February and starring Claire Danes.
What’s it like to see Claire Danes act out your life story? “Watching the movie was like being in a weird time machine,” Grandin said by phone from her office in Colorado.
“Claire did a great job portraying me as I was in the ’60s and ’70s, when I was more autistic than I am now,” said Grandin, who now operates on the high end of the autism spectrum... Temple Grandin

I'm sorry I missed her at Border's, but at least I heard NPR interview her for a full hour last week. I'm just happy that this aired before my 3 months of free HBO expired. Claire Danes was terrific and deserving of an Emmy nomination for her work in this role.

I saw the title of the article before her speech, but I thought it was about a restaurant, because it was in 77 Square, which has food-related articles and because her name is similar to a restaurant. In fact the thread clued me in that the article was about a person who works with animals. Thanks for that, Mz B.
