Does anyone here remember the name of the grocery store that used to be on the corner of University and Farley? There is a strip mall there now, the one with Tex Tubbs' and Booked for Murder. I think there was a similar grocery store over on Monroe Street, too.

It was called El Rancho. Before that it was a Piggly Wiggly.

My memory says el Rancho was Farley & University, but what was at the NE corner of Highland & University?

Remember when there was a coca cola bottling plant in the lovely village of Shorewood Hills?

Is that where the Inntowner is now?

Does anyone remember the Red Owl grocery store that was on University? Someone told me it was the first store in Madison to have automatic doors.

I remember the Eagle Food Store, which later became an A & P, where the southside Post Office is now located.

In the late 50's or early 60's, my mother would take me to the A&P on Park St. near Fish Hatchery to go grocery shopping. I think the store was where Ryan Brothers Ambulance Service is now.

We lived on Fish Hatchery near Wingra Dr. and I remember when the A&P was built on Wingra. It's a post office now. As kids, we used to hunt for pop bottles in the vacant lot next to the store and turn them in for the deposit. Then we could buy candy bars and other stuff. They let us go down the basement of the store and buy hot chocolate out of the vending machine and sit in the employee break room and drink it.

I think that was Miller's Market (or Miller's International Market, maybe?).
