How do I set up a signature in my profile, to show as a footer on my posts?

On the old platform, profile settings had a section for adding signatures. I cannot seem to find anything similar here. *I tried using the "Headline" section of my info tab, whatever that's for, and tried both HTML and a photobucket link, but although the settings saved, nothing appears.

What am I missing that both lardheppus and Remember_Me have?

Doesn't seem to be every time. But I've quoted a few times today and the post I quote has several spaces between each line.Odd.

Interesting thing happened today when I logged on. Much to my surprise, my avatar was changed by someone other than myself. Seeing as how noone knows my password, I want to know why it was changed. There was no email, no nothing stating that it was going to be changed. Thanks for the warning. Thanks for the communication.

Musings on "The Port"

In an attempt to find instances where "The Port" has been made to work, I went to their site. I found it interesting that in an effort to pitch "the Port" to media outlets, the St. Louis Post Dispatch was mentioned as using "The Port" to increase online revenue by $45K a month. I decided to check out their site. While it looks like they do indeed use "The Port" for the majority of the site, I found it interesting that they seem to use phpBB for their rather active forum. I wonder why that is?

The Post Dispatch is another Lee Enterprises paper, so perhaps the decision to use "The Port" here was based on a desire to use the same software on a corporate level and thus reduce IT overhead. If that's the case, can we expect madison.com to follow the Post Dispatch's example and use the phpBB we've all grown to love/hate, but are thoroughly used to?

Birth announcements?

OK, I'm a moran. I can cut and paste with the best of them. But I'd like to know how I can insert a link without having to display the entire url. For example, showing something like "http://link.com/artcle" as "Here is a link." Thank you.

It seems to be in beta, so why not make it official?

While some folks do take delight in assisting with the beta testing of a program, I never really was into it that much myself. Has any thought been given to re-opening the forums that are actually able to function properly while the bugs...both old and new...are being worked out on this one? I ain't saying shut the public out of this one...have links to both, but label this software as a "Beta test" until it is working correctly and then close down the other forums.

Is it just me or....

Do the forums now lag after making posts? I used to be able to make a post and it would bump the thread up immediately. Now it takes a while. No longer done in real time. I can see the post immediately in the thread itself, but it seems to take a bit to update elsewhere.Kind of like the Discussion posts with the articles.Anyone else getting this?

It seems when I post a quote and do a couple previews I get a server error when I click the post button. It's happened a number of times and it really sucks because I then have to completely re-create my entire post.

I'm assuming a few people do help out, but who's actually "MadisonAdmin"? If it's a few people who is it most of the time? Are any forumites involved? As in, people not actually employed by the paper?

Topic discussions in Communities forums

Forums have been incorporated into the Communities platform as a place for members and group administrators to post about topics and have discussions as they relate to the various forum categories. It's an objective of madison.com to facilitate this.

Content (topics and posts) that are contrary to topic discussions in those categories will be considered for removal by madison.com. This includes content about other Communities members (including administrators) and any other subject matter that might conflict with those forum objectives mentioned above set forth by madison.com.

In addition, there are rules available for further clarification and they can be found [url=http://my.madison.com/post/Groups/Support_and_Feedback/blog/communities_forum_rules.html]here.[/url] Rules, and the administration of those rules, are generally not subjected to topic discussions at this time.

If you feel some content crosses the guidelines established above (and in the linked rules) please use the "Report Post" feature located in the upper right corner of forum posts. madison.com receives those reports and will review that content.

Where is the "Ignore" button?

While I realize that threads on a forum like this are fluid and often segue into other topics than originally discussed, some are basically on topic but frequented by irrelevant blabber by some posters. See [url=http://my.madison.com/forums/Topic4239955-2889-1.aspx]this thread, for example[/url]; nitpicky I am perhaps, but I prefer my forum browsing experience to focus on relatively intelligent and rational posts by fellow adults, sans asinine spam replete with overuse of juvenile leet-speak a la myspace. Of course, those individuals are entitled to their opinions on the topics (completely off-topic though those opinions may be), but is there any way that the rest of us might be entitled to browse a forum without having to scroll through that garbage? Hiding those posts via an "ignore" function would seem a practical tactic.

Font Sizes

When I try and change the font size within a post it remains the same as the default. Is there a class setting that is perhaps superseding the user initiated formatting?

Changing Avatars

In account settings.

Click on "Update Your Photo" under the avatar.

"Change Image" button [b]doesn't work[/b].

"Set to Default Image" (terrace chair) works.

I get the same results in Firefox and Safari. Unusable in Opera.:exclamation:

Time Limit for Posting

I've noticed there's a time limit for posting in the forums. If you take too long, when you finish writing and then click on the Preview button, you get a page with a long string of computer language, and if you back up you get an Error message, so the post is lost. It's frustrating when it happens, especially after spending time looking up links and posting them.

There used to be a time limit in the old forums but it was changed. Could that be done here too?

If you go in the Forum Settings there's an option for pop up windows for PMs.

I'm not sure if it works though. Anyone using it?

"Add Reply" and "Quote" buttons

Messaging Function

Is there a similar option on this platform?

I ask because I don't always check my "My Stuff" page when I log in, and only noticed today that I've received about seventeen warnings from the SiteMod and a couple of juicy love notes within the past two days. I should probably keep abreast of that stuff.

We have a lot of information recorded including bugs, errors, display adjustments and suggestions for improvement that people have communicated -regarding madison.com as a whole and Communities.

All of the feedback you've provided so far has been valuable. We appreciate the time and we're working to make the madison.com and Communities experience a better one. This includes the forums.

It is going to take time as this is a large departure from what existed before. With the new endeavor it's about potential, in my opinion, and I think there is great potential here. To start, we have outstanding members and groups -but, it's gonna take time and we're committed to doing our best to make it worth it for you.

Avatars breaking

I'm not sure why this is happening at this time, but it's getting looked into. Sorry for the hassle. I understand how it's frustrating and I regret that.

For those who have a broken image, did this appear with attempts to change the image or did it just appear on it's own? I know Spock's avatar is now broken and I don't believe he tried changing it. His first name (I) and last name (am you neighbor) is also appearing instead of his username. Spock, I'm sorry about these complications.

Anyway, if members have some details about their images breaking, please post here. We appreciate your patience.

Is there any equivalent here to the "View your posts" link in the old forums? Of course, you can search by author, but you have to go through multiple steps to do that every time. Unless there's some way to save searches and then execute them simply.
