Memorial for Clarence Kailin

Spanish Civil War veteran and Madison peace activist Clarence Kailin died several weeks ago. There will be a community memorial for him tomorrow. Innovative Education Conference

MADISON--Educators will have the opportunity to learn new teaching techniques that will engage their students at the first Multi-Sensory Science Education conference held this weekend at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The event, hosted by the Independent Laboratory Access for the Blind (ILAB) at The Pennsylvania State University and the Institute for Chemical Education at UWM, is centered around teaching visually impaired students but will also include talks and workshops focused on multi-sensory learning. Conference workshops include science demonstrations, science theater, using haptics for students with disabilities as well as kinesthetic teaching techniques. Through the series of hands-on events, teachers will learn how to integrate these exciting teaching techniques into a classroom and hear about new research findings on multi-sensory teaching and learning. Sessions will be held both Friday, October 23 from 1pm to 5pm and Saturday, October 24 from 9am-12pm (hands-on workshops) and 1pm-5pm (Teaching techniques for students with visual impairments.) The Multi-Sensory Science Education conference is free, but pre-registration is required. Hello all, If there's one band you'll want to see this year then it's going to be Saint Motel.Tonight they're stopping off for a one off show on their worldwind US tour atThe Annex, 1206 Regent Street Madison. The band independant rock band created musical history by being the first band in the world to release a debut ep on itunes that includes a video to all six of their ep's songs (most bands prior to their September release were only allowed a maximum of two videos). In LA the band has made a real mark with their inventive and trademark concerts that have turned every gig into a special themed event including 3D nights (with complimentary 3d specs) Mustache nights (again with extravagant fake mustaches).Slasher, Zombie and even 'erotica' nights have made every single appearance one of the most memorable nights of their audiences nights. They've been tipped by many independant music writers as being 'the best rock band scince 'The Who' ..and for an independant band they are certainly among the most skilled and creative in the world at present. String of Ponies out of Detroit, MI is a nationally touring band that includes Jason Krueger's (BSR keyboard player) brother on keys. They recently opened for Railroad Earth and will be recording an album with White Stripes' record producer Jim Diamond. They are definitely on the move and BSR is thrilled to be sharing the stage with them for the 2nd time this year!

Hymn for Her is an interesting eclectic two piece husband and wife group (also drums & guitar for String of Ponies) originally out of Philly. They play folky Americana original music. In addition to guitar and banjo, they sing great harmonies, and add drums, harmonica and other percussion to give them a full band sound coming from only two.

Baghdad Scuba Review is a progressive modern classic rock band based in Madison. The month of October has already found them playing the grand finale of Madison's 39th Annual Harvest Festival on the WI State Capitol steps in front of 600 ppl this past Sunday. Later this month they head to the Fox Valley for a 3 day mini-tour and wind up the month performing at the Barrymore Theater as part of the 3rd Annual Night of the Dead Halloween costume celebration on Friday Oct. 30th.

The event takes place on Saturday, October 10th at the Richland County Fairgrounds. The Rally will begin at 8 a.m., with a Snowmobile Swap Meet and an Antique/Vintage Sled Show. At 10 a.m., the action really starts heating up with the Radical Power Machines Car Show. It will be on display along with the Riverview Dragway ATV drags in front of the grandstands. There will also be Freestyle Motorcycle Dirt Bike Jumping and North American Shed Hunters with displays and official antler scoring.
This is a family fun event! There will be a variety of vendors and displays, including the Vetesnik Power Sports display and S&S Cycle display. There will be kid’s activities from 11 a.m.-2 p.m featuring gourd painting, pumpkin rolling, balloons and much more! At Noon, the American Mini Pullers will be pulling on the Churning Dirt Pulling Track. The fun just keeps continuing! At 1:00, the Richland County Fairgrounds will be getting loud and dirty as the Central Mud Racers roll into town. They will be blasting through a 150 foot pit from a dead stop in about 2.5 seconds. At 2 p.m., the Richland Snow Drifters fire up for twenty-two classes of Snowmobile Grass Drags in front of the grandstands. The Homesteaders Store will present the Skid Steer Challenge at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m., S&S will be giving away an official S&S Toolbox equipped with tools. Goodstock is an annual giving event held at Knupp & Watson's office in Madison. The entire agency works 24 hours straight to complete advertising and public relations projects for selected nonprofits, including marketing strategy, branding, TV commercials, public relations plans, Web site design and more.

Knupp & Watson is currently on the hunt for approximately ten Dane County nonprofits to participate in Goodstock 2009. Requests for proposals and more information are currently available at www.goodstock24.com. The deadline for proposals is September 23; email materials to Goodstock@knupp-watson.com.

This year's event takes place from noon on Oct. 15 to noon on Oct. 16 (yes, it's an all-nighter).
