Holy shit what an improvement over the original DVD transfer!Tonight my living room is going to be filled with the lossless sound of machine gun fire and shells hitting the ground shaking the foundation of my house! I have had no problems solving the published Kakuros (some requiring a bit more work than others of course) over the past several months, but I have just had to give up attempting to solve the last five or six. Please let me know if I have totally lost my brain power or if there has been a sea change in the difficulty of these recent Kakuros. Any comments welcomed. :)

Reggae for the soldiers, sailors, and aircrew

Natty Nation is currently in the middle of Japan on another USO tour. I took mine. I was up in section 415. We ate at the Courtside Club before the show. It was really good food, all you can eat for $10.

Miley's brother Trace opened with his band Metro Station. I thought Trace looked like a freak with all those tattoos on his arms. His facial piercings didn't help anything either. I told my daughters that if a guy who looks like that ever comes knocking on the door looking for them, I'd give him 10 seconds to get off the property.

The crowd was mostly 8 to 14 year old girls and their moms. There were dads, there but was mostly moms. There were very few boys there. Trace's song "Shake" has lyrics about girls taking their clothes off, getting in bed without their clothes. Real classy song for mostly 10 year old girls.

Miley wore real skimpy clothes. The guy running the camera for the big screens behind the stage sure zeroed on that body. Plenty of close ups of Miley's crotch, her butt, and her cleavage.

Since the arena was filled with 90% or more of females, half the men's bathrooms were turned into additional woman's bathrooms. Most guys had to walk quite aways to find a bathroom. And when I finally found one, there were women in there who snuck in there to avoid the long lines at the women's bathrooms. I'm taking a whizz at the urinal while some mom is telling me how she had to go now or she would pee in her pants.

This is Mileys' first tour where she isn't "Hannah Montanah". Kind of a coming of age thing for Miley. But most elementary school girls still know her as Hannah, and many of them showed up to the concert. They got to see Miley doing provactive dance moves and dressed like a hooker. They also got to hear her brother Trace singing about how he wanted them to take their clothes off.

Miley did her popular song "the climb" and "ho down throwdown". She had an elaborate high tech stage and many props, including a riding on a motorcycle over the crowd during a song.

Michael Kienitz - Seeds of Change

Photojournalis Michael Kienitz is going to have an exhibit at the Pyle Center - 702 Langdon St. The opening is on Friday Oct. 16th at 5:30 and is a fundraiser for Working Capital for Community Needs (formerly WCCN). The exhibit runs through Nov. 15th 2009.

Note: Langdon St. will be closed on Friday for the Homecoming parade.
$10 suggested donation
$5 student suggested donation

Working Capital for Community Needs (WCCN) is pleased to present Seeds of Change, an exhibition by photographer Michael Kienitz. In the ‘70s and ‘80s, Kienitz captured scenes from brutal civil and revolutionary wars. As poignant as his conflict photography was, the innocent victims were what had the strongest impact on him. Their resilience in the face of the chaos around them was reflected through his lens.

In Central America, a region Kienitz has frequented, the gunfire has been quieted, but the people struggle endlessly against poverty. Kienitz recently returned in search of new images of hope. Joining forces with WCCN, he again finds pictures of resiliency in the midst of social injustice.

Through the powerful tool of microcredit, WCCN provides the working capital that the poor need to take their futures into their own hands. Kienitz’s keen eye provides a first-hand glimpse into the power of loans as small as $16. They can mean the difference between perpetual poverty and prosperity. Seeds of Change celebrates this opportunity.
Michael Kienitz website.

Animalympics

Anyone remember this movie?

Animalympics

I loved it as a kid and after searching a while I've found it! Checking it out now brings back a lot of memories.

1980 was a darn good year for me (in my Adidas mesh t-shirt -climbing trees, fishing by the river after school).
How was it for you?

Sugar Maple Fest Volunteer Holler - Sept 23 - HNS

The Four Lakes Traditional Music Collective will be kicking off the Sugar Maple Concert Series with our 3rd annual Volunteer Holler, Wednesday, September 23rd at the High-Noon Saloon! The concert series as a year-round celebration of the past, present and future of the annual summer Sugar Maple Festival. While the event is open to the public, it offers special nod to more than 100 volunteers who power the non-profit organization and it’s annual summer festival. These volunteers are welcome to attend the event for free.

Headlining the show is former member of the prestigious US Navy Country Current band, Frank Solivan II. Bluegrass Unlimited calls Solivan is “a major talent,” while Bluegrass Breakdown writes, “It would be relatively simple to describe Frank using standard marketing jargon and cliché terms of praise, but his creativity and unparalleled artistry seem to begin where those descriptions leave off” (Bluegrass Breakdown). A multi-instrumental master, Solivan sings with power and passion, writes articulate songs that go straight to the heart, and combines the pure, hard drive of classic bluegrass with twenty-first century sophistication. His quartet Dirty Kitchen, features a venerable line-up of nationally-connected pickers like banjo player Mike Munford, who has toured the world with top notch bluegrass artist like Tony Rice, Peter Rowan, the Rice Brothers and Lynn Morris.

The show starts at 8pm with Kristy Larson Honky Tonk Trio. Country music historian, author, musician and WORT radio host Bill Malone describes Kristy Larson as “one of the shining lights of Madison roots music”. Her light burns even brighter as she joins forces with husband and multi-instrumentalist Mark Roeder. Together, they’re a midwestern Rawlins and Welch.

Kyle Hollingsworth at the Majestic Theatre Sept. 10

Is anybody else going to this?
